The Update

Ok, I think it has been over 2 years now since I posted. Yikes!

Let me catch you up on what I have been up to…

  • I have 2 beautiful children. Gavin, my 4 year old boy and my baby girl, Madison,  just turned 1.
  •  I have been working at the Family Clinic of Natural Medicine now for 5 years, and love it. The Clinic just moved onto East Washington in Madison because we needed more space. It has been working out great.
  •  I am on the professional advisory board for Gilda’s  Club. Check them out!
  • I am the Treasurer of the Wisconsin Naturopathic Doctors Association. Check them out also!
  • When I am not being mom, doctor, or helping the clinic with marketing, I like to cook, exercise, and research.
  • Some of my future personal goals are to participate in a sprint triathlon and write a book or cookbook.

Again, I will try to post more often and keep up. 😉

It’s been awhile!

I apologize for not posting enough. I have so many ideas and thoughts, I just lack the time to type it out.  So here is a quick review of what’s new and exciting in my world.

I ran my first ever 5 mile race in November. This was basically the first time I had ran since my diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis 12 years ago. I was terrified to run for a long time because every time I had attempted to my ankles would lock up and I would fall. I remember my friend in college saying I looked like a tumble weed rolling. In retrospect, I guess that is kind of funny. Anyway, I have been arthritis free for 7 or more years and feeling great thanks to naturopathic medicine. I plan on running more races and hope to do a sprint triathlon soon. Yeah!

My son turned 2 in January and boy does he keep me busy. We are struggling with a little bit of separation anxiety  since joining the YMCA, but he is doing much better. We have also started potty training and he is about 90% there, we just need to work at night time dryness.

Let’s see what else….

Work is great, I love being a Naturopathic Doctor and helping people with challenging issues. We start the 3rd annual detox on Saturday. There are still some spots left if anyone is interested. I am excited! Oh, I got interviewed by Madison magazine last week on Gluten. I’m excited to see what they took from my fast paced, enthusiastic spiel on the benefits of going gluten free.

I think that is it for now. I will try to post about my detox experience so stay tuned…..

Anti-Inflammatory Tips – eat these foods to keep inflammation down

Omega-3 fatty acids – such as wild salmon, sardines, herring, anchovies, flaxseed, hempseed and walnuts. In addition, other anti-inflammatory fats include extra-virgin olive oil, avocado oil, flaxseed oil, hempseed oil and walnut oil

Fruits and vegetables – high in inflammation-reducing antioxidants. Especially onions, garlic, peppers, cruciferous, and dark leafy greens. These are high in inflammation-fighting carotenoids, vitamin K and vitamin E.

Herbs and spices – include compounds to fight inflammation. Turmeric, oregano, rosemary, ginger and green tea contain bioflavonoids and polyphenols that reduce inflammation and limit free radical production.

Detox update

Yeah! Today is Day 10.
So, this weekend involved a lot of will power since I could only eat apples, pears, broccoli, cauliflower, and greens. Plus, my son got a cold and I was up every night and I went to a brewer game and resisted tailgate food and vendors.
Today I get to bring foods back in and see if any foods cause a reaction.
Overall, I noticed clearer vision, an increase in energy towards the end of the 10 days, and I lost a few pounds.

If any of you are interested in learning about the detox or want to purchase the protein powder I used please contact the Family Clinic at 608-222-2700.

Bye bye for now!

Detox update

Today is day 3. I am doing well but, missing animal protein. Today was elimination of gluten and corn. Tomorrow is elimination of all grains, nuts, and seeds

I have gotten some feedback on detox dates, would Tuesday May 22 or Thursday May 24th at 6pm work? Or is a weekend preferred?
